USA 2009 – San Francisco Day 5
Another big day of walking. I’ve been doing a three month walking challenge through work where I’m supposed to be wearing a pedometer and recording my daily steps. I must admit I’ve been a bit haphazard in remembering to wear it, but I’m sure of it’s accuracy. After a good solid 8 hours of walking yesterday it told me I had only walked about 2500 steps so I’ve thrown it in the bin and am using an online calculator instead.
We started of today by catching the N down to the Embarcadero and the farmers market by the ferry building.
It wasn’t quite like the farmers market back home, but Michell still managed to get some nice fresh veggies to put in the curries she had planned for dinner.
After this we jumped on the California Street Cable Car and made our way up to Chinatown. What is it about Chinatowns that make them all alike? They all have weird produce, meat and live seafood, strange pokey little cafes and tacky junk and souvenir shops it’s kind of like they are all cloned by the central committee and dotted around the globe with there size and scope varying dependent on the size of the city they are located in.
After the Chinatown walk we jumped back on the Powell and Mason cable car back to the Powell Street station where we jumped the N train back to base to stow our supplies.
After we stowed our supplies we headed to Chow on Church Street for a quick bite and the we headed of to walk the Castro. We proceeded along doing a bit of window shopping and browsing, we ducked into a little antique shop, which was more of a trinket shop than antiques as such. Where the owner proudly told us how the shop was a feature in the Gus vanSant movie “Milk”.
After wandering the Castro we headed back to base where the boys had returned. Michelle was keen to cook up some tasty curries and we were happy to sit back and drink some beer and wine.
And that was day 5.
