USA 2009 – San Francisco Day 4

It’s currently about 9.30am on day 7, we’ve just had breakfast and I’m sitting in The Grind cafe trying to catch up on the holiday blog while Michelle is off next door getting a manicure (for some reason she thinks the relatives will be looking at her hands when we see them).

Day 4. We were up and out pretty early in order to get the rental car back by 10am to avoid paying for a second day’s rental, caught the N train back to base and then headed back to the Mission District where we did the “Art Walk” in the lonely planet guide where there were some amazing murals.

After the art walk we stumbled across 826 Valencia which at first claims to be a centre for young writers, but is really a pirate supply store.

Here we stocked up on piratey t-shirts to adorn our bodies and piratey posters to adorn the walls of our new house. After nearly getting mopped by a pirate lass (who we’d really like to see go head to head with Aliese in words per minute competition) we decided we needed some sustenance.

It was off to Taqueria Cancun for a burrito the size of a forearm for lunch.

After lunch we we’re about to head to Pier 33 to jump on the boat for our evening Alcatraz tour when we realised that we’d left the tickets back at base. A quick detour and we still made it to the pier with time to spare.

Despite the large number of people on the tour, it wasn’t too touristy and the information was set out very well. The audio tour moved a bit slow for our pace, but was pretty interesting and it was a good opportunity to get some nice holiday snaps.

We were back on the mainland at about 8pm, and we slowly made our way back to base via streetcar and rail. After such a big lunch, dinner was definitely not required, and that was day 4 done and dusted.
